Telemedicine took a step forward today with the Australian Government pledging Medicare rebates for online consultations if re-elected.
Despite this potential, tele-health or online consultation services have not been widely adopted. A lack of infrastructure – in particular, inadequate bandwidth to support high-speed transmission of images and video-conferencing – has been an obstacle to greater use of tele-health.
